The Be More Human Challenge is a five-week program designed to help you maximize your human potential. There are seven components of the challenge, which include: Nutrition, Hydration, Sleep, Mobility, Meditation/Mindfulness, Fitness, and Random Acts of Kindness. The goal of the program is to create positive lifestyle habits that can be maintained once the program is complete. To help you be successful in this program, pick a different component that you want to work on each week. This program is all about you! It is ok to start off small with one or two challenges and to expand each week. To help with your personal growth, find a partner to hold you accountable. Work together to encourage and influence a Be More Human lifestyle. This challenge is not meant to be easy. There will be times where things won’t go as planned and it will get tough. Realize that the team behind you is here to support you. Never be content with where you are at, strive to go outside your comfort zone, and realize your full potential.

NUTRITION

Fueling your body with optimal energy is essential for a healthy wellbeing. The energy that food provides allows us to function properly, live well and grow. The goal of this challenge is to Eat Real Food. Eating real foods means to consume foods that are whole and close to nature as possible. A good guideline is to eat protein, vegetables, fruit, healthy fats, nuts, and seeds.

HYDRATION

Hydration is a vital part of being human. Our bodies are made up of 60% water, so it is important to keep our hydration status up. Water helps lubricate joints, regulate body temperature, and reduce cramping. Proper hydration is for people wanting to maximize their performance and also their health. Ideally, you should consume 8 cups of water per day. This will ensure that you are maintaining proper hydration levels. For this challenge, we will only be counting cups of water.

SLEEP

When creating health goals, sleep can often be overlooked. It can be challenging to achieve and maintain long-term goals while trying to function under little sleep. Good sleep is one of the most essential elements to maintain health and improve human performance. It can be the key component to unlocking full human potential. The challenge is to unplug for at least seven hours a day.

MOBILITY

Stretching and flexibility allow for safer and more efficient movement by helping to increase the joints range of motion. Safer movement will allow you to train harder and longer. To increase the range of motion, hold stretches to the point of mild discomfort for about 2 minutes and then switch to a different stretch and hold for another 2 minutes. Try to accumulate 20 cumulative minutes of mobility a day. All 20 minutes do not have to be achieved at one time but do need to be completed in one day. Tissue work would also qualify. For example, foam rolling or use of lacrosse balls/softballs for mobility are acceptable. If you sign up for an on-campus therapeutic massage, that will count towards a mobility point.

MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS

Our lives and hectic schedules involve a lot of excitatory nervous system stimulation. The excitatory nervous system triggers the fight or flight response. We are always on edge and thinking about what we need to do next. The opposite of the excitatory nervous system is the inhibitory nervous system. This system triggers a rest and digest response. To ensure that we don’t spend too much time stimulating the excitatory nervous system, mindfulness can help us calm down and improve our inhibitory system. There are many different forms of mediation out there, any of which, are acceptable. The benefits of mindfulness can include, improved focus, memory, and mood. Mindfulness can also reduce stress, chronic pain, and lower blood pressure.

FITNESS #AlwaysTraining

At Reebok, we want to encourage an active lifestyle for our employees. We want you to get to the gym as often as possible during the work week. Being active has a variety of benefits to your body. It can increase your strength, improve flexibility, heart function, mood, and prevent certain diseases. We live in a world where we sit most of our day. We are creatures who are meant to move. Make sure you are #AlwaysTraining and finding ways to supplement movement into your day. All classes that are available at the gym such as CrossFit, boxing, yoga, boot camp, and spinning are acceptable.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

Part of the Be More Human mentality is reaching out to help others. At Reebok, we want to create a community that works together to live happier and healthier. Not only will you feel good about helping others, but you will also be part of making someone’s day. You can do these random acts of kindness with your co-workers, your family, or even random strangers. The possibilities are endless; the only requirement is you have to go out of your way to make someone’s life better.
